CHEER

On January 20, 2024, the HU cheer squad made program history by making their first official debut as a competitive cheer team in the NAIA.

The Foresters traveled to Spring Arbor for the Cougar Classic #1 and battled their way to fifth place with a score of 55.33. Most impressive about their first ever competition was being the only team at the event to walk away without any deductions.

HU continued their season this past weekend at the IWU Wildcat Invitational where they performed three times. At the Friday evening session, the Foresters received a program record score of 58.18 for tenth place (out of 10). The competition continued Saturday morning with Huntington finishing the second session with a score of 58.08 for 14th place (out of 15).

Esque’s crew banded together to make some adjustments to their final routine shortly before performing. It served the Foresters well as they placed 11th (out of 11) with a point total of 50.17 and no deductions and a higher showmanship score.

“These young ladies showcased a passion and love for cheer,” said Coach Shawnna Esque. “We absolutely loved seeing our team support each other as well as supporting other teams at the competition!

“They truly shined on the mat as they fought hard for every skill and stunt. I am so proud of this team and how much they bonded together to put on three amazing performances.”

The Foresters have one more regular season competition on March 2, the Cougar Classic #2 at Spring Arbor. They will finish out the year at the Crossroads League Cheer Tournament at Marian on March 9.
