WOMEN’S SOCCER

Taking on the second best team in the nation, the Forester women’s soccer team came up short, 2-0, against Spring Arbor Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex in first round action of the Crossroads League Tournament.

Huntington finished eighth in the CL regular season standings but stood their ground against the top-seeded Cougars. SAU came into the contest averaging over four goals per outing but on this given day, HU was locked in defensively to hold the national powerhouse to half their normal scoring.

It had a similar vibe to the regular season matchup between these two squads when HU limited the Cougars to just one goal to make for a 1-0 final.

Spring Arbor unleashed for 23 shots but only got a pair to stick, scoring in the 35th minute and then again in the 66th minute. Huntington managed three shots on the afternoon and went without a corner kick while giving up five.

With the win, the Cougars move on to the semifinals of the tourney on Wednesday where they will host 4th-seeded Marian. SAU remains unbeaten this season with a 15-0-2 record.

Huntington finishes the season with an overall record of 6-11-1.
