MEN’S SOCCER

The 3rd-seeded Cougars of Spring Arbor sent the 6th-seeded HU men’s soccer team home with a 3-1 loss Saturday evening in quarterfinal action of the Crossroads League tournament.

With this win, SAU (11-4-4) advances to the semis of the tourney where they will face 2nd-seeded Grace Wednesday afternoon while the loss brings to a close the Foresters’ season.

The match had a similar feel to the regular season clash between these two squads when the Cougars bolted in front 3-0 on the way to a 4-1 win. Tonight’s contest saw the hosts once again put three goals back netting before Joao Ratinho, assisted by Sam Dolobaipu, put one away for HU in the 89th minute for what ended a 3-1 decision.

Spring Arbor proved the more efficient team offensively as both teams posted ten shots. The difference came by what of shots on goal which favored the Cougs 7-2. Corner kicks were a wash at three apiece.

Ratinho finished with eight goals on the season as did Higor Barbieri. For Dolobaipu, it was his fifth dime of the year. In addition to leading HU in assists, Dolobaipu was also his team’s leading scorer with ten goals this fall.

The Foresters wrap up the year with an overall record of 7-8-4.
