The 2nd-seeded Cougars of Mount Vernon (29-6) swept the 7th-seeded Forester volleyball team to bring to a close HU’s season Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League tourney.

The score of each set was identical at 25-18 to make for a relatively quick outing between the two squads. It was the third meeting between the two teams this fall with MVNU, currently ranked 23rd nationally, winning each time.

The Cougars committed just 14 hitting errors to finish with 39 kills to Huntington’s 27. In addition to an efficient offense, the hosts also boasted an effective defense at the net where they posted 11 blocks to HU’s five.

Senior Morgan Robrock was her usual consistent self, having posted a double double of 23 assists and 12 digs. Kortney Grimm and Haley Kruse each finished with seven kills for the Foresters while Olivia Krahn trolled the backline for 22 digs.

“It’s always hard when your season comes to an end,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “To be transparent, we did not accomplish what we set out to do this year. Therefore, we discussed in the locker room after the match tonight that this end can be a new beginning for our team.

“Whatever disappointed us with this season, we can change moving forward. Through both the hard times and the good times, there is no other team I would choose to coach. We are moving forward together as one. We are so grateful for what Morgan Robrock and our managers Pagie Wheeler and Tayler Bedow have done for this program and we will deeply miss them.”

Herber and crew wrap up the year with an overall record of 16-15.
