VOLLEYBALL

Marian sent the HU volleyball team home with a 3-0 loss, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, Wednesday night at the Physical Education Center. The win wraps up the regular season sweep for MU.

Since playing the Foresters the first time around, the Knights (15-7, 9-3) have gone 8-2 to climb into a three-way tie for second with Bethel and Mount Vernon. Marian has also started garnering national attention as they received votes in the NAIA poll that was released earlier today.

With today’s loss, Huntington drops to 13-10 overall which includes a 4-8 CL record. With six regular season league games remaining, the Foresters are sitting seventh in the standings.

Marian had an efficient night offensively, logging 48 kills and a .346 hitting percentage, while limiting their guests to 31 kills and .167 hitting percentage. Trevyn Terry paced HU with 8 kills on 14 swings. Haley Kruse and Maisyn Robrock each finished with six kills while Kortney Grimm and Leah Carter put down five apiece.

Morgan Robrock ran the offense by handing out 26 assists. Layla Meyer took charge of the defensive by tracking down 18 digs.

“We have emphasized passing recently by keeping stats of this skill set in practice,” noted Coach Kelsey Herber. “It’s translated quickly to matches. We now need to execute offensively with a score-first mentality when we have a good pass.

“I asked each player to flip the switch when it comes to her own mentality. We have a talented and athletic team, and we can make a decision to play at our highest level whenever we step on the floor.”

HU takes a break from Crossroads League action to host Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
