MEN’S GOLF
The HU men’s golf team was back in action over the weekend at the ONU Bill Johnson Fall Invitational where they finished sixth out of 12 teams with a 34-over-par 610 having posted a 301 on Friday and a 309 on Saturday.
Leading the way was Peyton Richmond (74-76) who fired a 150 for 13th place. Colby Martin was a picture of consistency, turning in a 76 both days to finish with a 152 good for 20th place. Trevor Simon carded a 154 (76-79) for the 28th spot.
Mitchell Wilson turned in a 156 (75-81) and rounding out the scoring was Quin Edwards with a 163 (85-78).
Huntington had a second squad compete over the weekend The crew finished 8 th with a 636 (310-326). Brenner Lampton had a fabulous tournament to fire a 150 (72-78). Other scores included Kaleb Ketchum with a 157 (77-80), Evan Walsh with a 165 (80-85), Carter Roseboom with a 166 (81-85), Hank Pulver with a 173 (90-83).
“The guys played really well the first day and we were only a few shots off two defending national champions teams,” said Coach Connor Dwyer. “We struggled a little bit coming in but it’s fun to see the squad be motivated to compete with good teams and look forward to getting better and improving.
“I am really proud of few guys who had milestone rounds – Brenner shot a career-low 72 in round one. Kaleb had his first career round in the 70s in round one and Trevor had his first collegiate round in the 70s as well.”
Illinois Wesleyan fired a 586 to top the leaderboard followed by Parkland (591), Illinois Wesleyan B (598), Olivet Nazarene (605), St. Ambrose (607), HU (610), St. Mary of the Woods (626), HU B (636), Fontbonne (642), St. Francis (Ill.) (645), Governors State (653) and St. Xavier (654).
Huntington is back in action on tomorrow for the Ken Venturi Invitational at Trine University.
