Items For Sale

Hobbs girls tomato & pepper plant sale!

Tomorrow my girls are holding a sale for the pepper and tomato plants they started this year. The plants are super nice looking! I think these are honestly the best pepper and tomatoes plants that you can buy in Huntington!

The list of varieties are below. All are singly in 3” pots and are $2 each. Most of them have been hardened off and are ready to go in the ground today!

If you want to be helped by four very cute girls, you can stop by our house (1009 Cherry Street) between 4:00 and 6:00 this afternoon (Friday), where they will be selling plants from our front porch.

I can also arrange for a pickup for you at the Science Hall if you would prefer; just send me an email with the varieties you are interested in!

Our stock is running low on some varieties, but as of this morning we still have some of everything listed below available for sale. For pictures and descriptions, you can look up most of these on Baker Creek Seeds or Fedco.

Tomatoes:

  • Amish Paste (classic paste tomato)
  • Berkeley Tie-Dye (a crazy-looking, tasty slicer!)
  • Black Prince (heirloom “black” slicer)
  • Blue Beauty (A new variety, nice blue/black color on shoulders, slicer)
  • Green Zebra (heirloom green with yellow stripes, medium sized slicer)
  • Grey Beech (hard to find heirloom paste tomato)
  • Mr. Fumarole (a large heirloom plum variety, good for paste or fresh eating)
  • Opalka (heirloom paste tomato)
  • Purple Russian (heirloom plum variety, fresh eating or sauce)
  • Red Cherry (standard red cherry tomato)
  • Ruby Gold (large heirloom slicer, red and yellow)
  • Sun Gold (the classic yellow cherry tomato that is consistently voted as the best tasting tomato in the world)
  • White Tomesol (heirloom white slicer)

Peppers:

  • Aji Fantasy (small yellow habanero-looking, but only mildly spicy)
  • Carmen (our favorite sweet pepper! Large “bull’s horn” shape, super productive)
  • Chocolate Cake (classic bell pepper, chocolate brown, but not chocolate flavored! 😊)
  • Czech Black (black jalapeno-like pepper that turns a beautiful garnet when ripe)
  • Feher Ozon (yellow-orange paprika sweet pepper)
  • Flavorburst (hybrid, yellow sweet bell pepper. New one to us, ranks high on flavor!)
  • Habanada (looks just like a flaming hot orange habanero, but with zero heat! Neat flavor)
  • Jigsaw (fascinating multicolored foliage, hot pepper)
  • Minibell Mix (heirloom sweet miniature bell variety)
  • Patagonia Rainbow (small multi-colored hot pepper, very attractive!)
  • Peppito-Czech Black Hybrid (our own creation…dainty little black hot peppers that turn red. Purple blossoms and attractive foliage)
  • Rezha Macedonian (unusual hot pepper, long, with substantial corking running the length of the fruit. We grew it last year and really liked it!)
  • Sugar Rush Peach (habanero-style, less spicy though and longer in shape. Excellent flavor!)
  • Violet Sparkle (pointed, sparkly-purple sweet pepper, very productive, shorter plant than most)
