MEN’S GOLF

It was a grind from start to finish for the HU men’s golf team at the Midway Eagle Invitational as the Foresters placed 11th out of 12 teams with a two-round score of 678 (+102) after posting a 335 on Monday and a 343 in Tuesday’s final round.

Carter Hall paced the Foresters, finishing tied for 35th with a two-day total of 165 (+21). After opening with an 82, Hall shaved a stroke on day two with an 83 to lead HU’s lineup.

Steven Webb followed, tying for 45th at 170 (+26). Webb turned in one of HU’s better opening rounds with a 79 before slipping to a 91 on Tuesday. Mason Reeves added a 52nd-place finish at 172 (+28) with rounds of 84 and 88.

Trey Spring showed one of the bigger improvements between rounds, bouncing back from a 92 on Monday to fire an 81 on Tuesday to finish tied for 54th at 173 (+29). Ethan Bumbalough rounded out the Foresters’ scoring five, placing 65th with a 181 (+37).

As a team, HU sat in 11th after the opening round and couldn’t make up ground on day two, carding a 343 to finish with a 678. Kentucky State and Marian shared top honors, each finishing at +17 (593), well ahead of the field. Taking third was IU East with a 617 followed by IU Kokomo (631), Midway (635), Truett McConnell (635), Bethel (636), Midway B (643), SMWC (645), Brescia (649), HU (678) and MVNU (682).

The Foresters will look to regroup at the Pilot Invitational slated for April 17-18.
