WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The #RV Huntington women’s basketball team lit it up from long range Saturday evening at Garth Pleasant Arena, rolling past Rochester Christian 88-54 in a record-breaking performance. With the win, HU moves to 4-2 on the year while the Warriors slip to 1-1.

The night belonged to Kyndell Jochim. The 6-0 junior guard delivered one of the most remarkable shooting displays in program history, going 10-for-12 from beyond the arc to set a new single-game school record for made threes. The previous record of nine had stood for over 20 years. Jochim finished with 32 points to lead all scorers.

Her performance powered the Foresters to another milestone: a new team record for made threes in a game. Huntington knocked down 20 triples (20-for-35, 57.1%), shattering the old record by four. Remarkably, HU shot better from three than from the field overall (54.7%).

HU grabbed control early by outscoring the Warriors 21-11 in the opening quarter, then blistered the nets in the second. The Foresters went 8-for-10 from the floor in the frame, including 6-for-6 from deep, to build a 48-27 halftime cushion. The margin only grew from there as Huntington continued to pull away after the break to secure the lopsided victory.

Kyndra Sheets added 11 points, 3 assists and knocked down three triples. Peyton Hartsough came off the bench to drop 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from deep. Addie Shank was a presence inside with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Annaka Nelson and Teegan Acres chipped in 8 and 5 points respectively. Lauryn Merritt added 5 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.

Rochester Christian was led by Karmyn Lowry and Mylah Aalse, who each finished with 9 points.

Huntington now turns its attention to Crossroads League play, opening conference action on the road at Spring Arbor on November 19 at 5:00 p.m.
