WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Goshen College women’s volleyball team (7-25, 2-14) snapped an 11-game losing streak by taking down Huntington University in four sets on Wednesday night (26-24, 27-25, 14-25, 25-21). The Foresters had won 12 straight over the Maple Leafs dating back to August of 2018.

The Foresters took a 24-22 lead in the opening set, but the Maple Leafs ran off four straight points to take the first set 26-24. The hosts took the second set 26-24 when two late calls did not go the Foresters’ way. HU battled back to take the third set 25-14. With the score tied at 12, Goshen would score five straight to take a 17-12, but HU scored four consecutive to get right back in it and tie the score at 19. Goshen took advantage of a few Forester miscues down the stretch to clinch the match 25-21.

The Foresters’ offense had consistent contribution from Trevyn Terry’s eight kills and Nigella Reck’s seven kills. Haley Kruse also notched seven kills, while Makailah Thompson and Kennedy Kintz handed out 18 and 15 assists respectively.

Huntington (13-15, 5-11) will look to get back on track when they host #18 Grace College on Saturday. The mid-day match is set to kick off a full afternoon of action in Platt Arena at 12:00 p.m.
