WOMEN’S SOCCER

The HU women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 road loss to Saint Francis Wednesday night at Bishop John M. D’Arcy Stadium to drop to 5-2-4 which includes a 0-1-2 Crossroads League record while the Cougars improve to 8-2-2 overall, 1-2-0 in league play.

Bitten by the injury bug as of late, Coach David Lewis’ crew didn’t go down without a fight despite being short-handed. The Foresters held their hosts scoreless through the first period and halfway through the final stanza before the Cougars finally cracked HU’s defense at the 67:34 mark. The 1-0 advantage held to the final buzzer for the Cougars’ first league win of the season.

Sophie Shepherd posted three of her team’s six shots, two of which were on frame, while USF manufactured 11 shots on the evening with eight on target. As a team, Huntington posted four shots on goal.

Macie Sanders defended the goal, collecting seven saves, to be charged with the loss. The Foresters are on the road again Saturday to take on #8 Spring Arbor at 3:00 p.m.
