SOFTBALL

An 8-1 loss brought an end to the 5th-seeded Huntington softball team’s season Thursday morning in a Crossroads League tournament elimination game against 3rd-seeded Spring Arbor.

Up against one of the top pitchers in the country, the Foresters struggled to find any sort of offensive rhythm. Emmalee Hamp limited HU to just six hits and a walk while striking out six. The senior tosser is also in the batting line-up for SAU and her three-run bomb in the second is what blew the game open.

Huntington’s lone run came in the fourth when Bree Hines knocked in Maddie Goheen, who had doubled her way onto base, with a single into right.

Starting pitcher Emma Payton took the loss for HU. In 2.2 innings of work, she gave up five hits, six runs, only three of which were earned, and a walk while striking out two.

The Foresters wrap up the season with an overall record of 27-27. Twenty-seven wins is the most program wins in a season since 2017.
