VOLLEYBALL

Taking a break from league play, the Huntington volleyball team quickly disposed of Calumet College of St. Joseph in three, 25-22, 25-14, 25-20, Saturday afternoon in Platt Arena. The sweep is HU’s seventh of the season.

The matchup between these two squads is just the second during Coach Herber’s tenure with the first, also a 3-0 decision, dating back to 2021.

Sophomore Haley Kruse had ten of Huntington’s 38 kills. Maisyn Robrock finished with eight while middles Trevyn Terry and Leah Carter each posted seven to make for a well-balanced attack.

In true Morgan Robrock fashion, the senior setter did a little bit of everything for the Foresters by collecting 31 assists, a game-best 16 digs, two kills and two blocks.

Defensively, Carter registered three of her team’s nine blocks. The backline saw Layla Meyer (11), Nigella Reck (11) and Makailah Thompson (10) all finish with double-digit digs.

When all was said and done, HU outplayed their guests in every statistical category having posted 38 kills and a .149 hitting percentage to the Crimson Wave’s 26 kills and .016 hitting percentage. Blocking also favored the hosts 9-3. Behind the endline, Herber’s crew tallied five aces while committing only two service errors while those same numbers for CCSJ (6-12) were three and six respectively.

“Today was an important win for us going into a big week of three conference matches next week,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “I’m grateful for our efforts in pushing the tempo offensively and bettering the ball in chaotic moments.”

Today’s win moves HU to 14-10 on the year. Next up is road trip to Spring Arbor on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Cougars.
