Day 1 of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships is in the books with the Foresters moving on to the finals in two of the three events they were signed up for.
Freshman Abbey Gentz kicked off the meet for HU by finishing 12th in the 5000 meter prelims (17:44.60) to reserve her spot in the finals slated for Saturday at 3:35 p.m. Kent Yoder toed the line of the 5000 meter after that to finish 16th in 15:09.91 to miss out on the finals by a few spots.
The HU women’s DMR team, as the No. 3 seed, took first in the prelims by clocking in at 11:50.93, seven seconds faster than their qualifying time. The order of the relay was Emily Tedder (1200), Destinee McGrady (400), Mackenzie Brewer (800) and Addy Wiley (1600). The finals for the DMR is set for Saturday at 4:20 p.m.
The Foresters will be represented in ten events tomorrow at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
