MEN’S BASKETBALL
For the fifth time this season, the #25 Huntington men’s basketball team hit the century mark in a 103-58 debacle of East-West (6-17) Friday afternoon at Platt Arena. The win sends HU into the new year with a 12-3 record.
The Foresters have won all three of their meetings with the Phantoms by an average of 37 points.
Not surprisingly, HU came out on top of every statistical category on this given day with several categories more glaring than others to make for the skewed result. The hosts committed half as many turnovers to outscore EWU 31-10 in points off TOs. Alford’s crew also outscored their guests 36-15 from downtown and 44-20 in the paint while outshooting East-West by more than 15 percent from the field.
The Phantoms scored first but it was all Huntington after that. Behind Hank Pulver’s two buckets, the Foresters put up the next nine points on the way to opening up a double-digit advantage of 21-9 by the 12-minute mark.
By halftime, the difference between the two teams was 50-24 with more of the same in the final twenty minutes as HU added to their lead by 19 to make for the final 45-point disparity.
Eleven Foresters found their way into the scoring column with Lane Sparks leading the way with 17 points. Goodline tossed in 16 while dishing out seven assists. Jackson Paul had a banner night by pouring in a career-best 13 points in his 15 minutes of play off the bench. Landen Jordan ended up with 11 while Pulver finished with nine. The pair each pulled down seven boards to share game-high rebounding honors.
East-West was paced by Dequanis Jackson and Dario Biaggi who tallied 21 and 11 points respectively.
The Foresters are back in action Wednesday with a trip to #11 Indiana Wesleyan.
