VOLLEYBALL

Up against one of the top teams in the nation, the HU volleyball team nabbed a set from #11 Indiana Wesleyan (15-5, 8-3) Wednesday night in Luckey Arena. The 3-1 loss (25-17, 25-14, 26-28, 25-19) drops Huntington to 8-14 overall which includes a 4-7 CL record.

It took the Foresters extra points in the third set to eventually outlast their hosts. HU logged 19 kills to IWU’s 12 with De’Janea Johnson spearheading Huntington’s cause with six. Haley Kruse put down four while Maisyn Robrock logged the set-winning kill. She finished with three kills in the set, five for the match.

Kruse collected a team-high 11 kills for the match, Johnson finished with nine and Kortney Grimm added seven. Morgan Robrock took charge of the offense with 35 assists while Layla Meyer took charge of the defense with 24 digs.

Huntington committed just three service errors. It’s the third time this season that Herber and crew have logged three or less errors behind the backline.

“After a slow start in the first two sets, I’m grateful for ow we responded in sets three and four,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “De’Janea and Maisyn were both sparks for us.

“Moving forward, we are going to work on tip coverage and passing consistency. I told the girls to walk away from this match with confidence that they can take it to any team in this conference.”

The Foresters take a break from league play this weekend to compete in the Manchester tri-match on Saturday to take on Earlham and Manchester.
