VOLLEYBALL

For the second time this season, the Forester volleyball team blanked a Crossroads League foe with their latest victim the Maple Leafs of Goshen College on Saturday at Gunden Gymnasium. The three-set win (25-22, 25-19, 25-14) ups HU’s overall record to 7-11, 3-4 in league play, and snaps a two-game losing streak.

Huntington, whose first shutout was against Spring Arbor, has logged eight straight wins over Goshen with the start of the streak originating back to October of 2018.

Offensively, the Foresters posted a .213 hitting percentage. It’s the seventh time this year Herber and crew have hit above .200. De’Janea Johnson led the way with 12 kills. Kortney Grimm also finished in double figures with ten in addition to tracking down a match-high 20 digs. Tya Bynum and Mariah Milledge added seven kills apiece.

Morgan Robrock was up to her typical ways by doing a bit of everything for her team which included collecting 40 assists, 14 digs and a pair of blocks.

“I am proud of this team for another great bounce after two challenging matches this week,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “This match we wanted to execute the skill set of finishing a set. We allowed Goshen to go on runs at the end of our first two sets today, but we did a great job closing it out in the third.

“We have a big week ahead of us, so the girls are spending this weekend celebrating a good win and getting hungry for Bethel, Grace and Saint Francis all at home this week.”

The first of the three-game homestand is Bethel on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
