Fulbright Scholar Opportunities in Canada (2 minute read)
Thank you to Professor Mark Fairchild for the quick summary he gave of his Fulbright research during the last faculty meeting. An important conclusion — Foresters are competitive for Fulbrights!
There are many similar opportunities open to U.S. scholars such as yourselves. For example, last week, Fulbright Canada introduced three new Fulbright opportunities at Canadian universities that may interest you.
It is too late to apply for these in the current application cycle, but I am passing this info on because it is useful to start thinking about such things early. Planning for a Fulbright requires a fairly long-term view (e.g., typically in conjunction with a sabbatical).
The new and previously existing opportunities listed below are for the 2023-2024 academic year but have an application due date of September 2022. We can expect similar timelines for future years. It is not too soon to begin thinking of when you will apply for a sabbatical, and whether any Fulbright opportunities work for you. Those in the list below are for 4 or 9 months, but note: these are specific to Fulbright Canada — other international opportunities have other structures and are advertised here a few times a year. Click here for more details about Research Chair awards from Fulbright Canada in general.
As you can see below, the areas of expertise considered competitive for these awards are very generously and broadly defined. It really is up to us to sell our particular gifts and skills and craft a compelling argument as to how we can push progress in these areas of international interest with our particular scholarly focus.
