HU Arizona Presents at WFOT Congress

The Huntington University OTD programs were well represented at the 18th World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT) Congress held in Paris, France, August 28-31, 2022. It is held every fourth year. This year the much-awaited and delayed congress took place in Paris with over 2,500 practicing occupational therapists and occupational therapy educators from over 100 countries. The congress offers multiple opportunities for networking, collaboration, and sharing of educational and practice innovations within the profession. WFOT is a global network of 105 member organizations, representing 580,000 occupational therapists. WFOT sets the standard for occupational therapy education internationally and promotes excellence in research and practice. As a worldwide body, WFOT represents the profession in its role of improving world health and wellbeing.

Evelyn Andersson, director of the OTD program in Peoria, Arizona, presented an oral paper titled “Occupation-Based Practice in Malawi, Africa” within the panel session Transformative Occupational Therapy Education, SE 12, on August 28.

Jennifer Muriithi, assistant professor of occupational therapy in Peoria, Arizona and Bernard Muriithi, assistant professor, Creighton University, Phoenix, Arizona, presented an oral paper titledLived Experiences of Refugee Musicians: Indelible Tenacity in Pursuit of Cultural Identity and Emotional, Spiritual, and Physical Well-Being Amidst Adversity” within the panel session Occupational Justice/Human Rights/Equity/Social Inclusion, SE 46, on August 30.
