- Ronald Reagan was president of the United States
- Margaret Thatcher was the UK prime minister
- “Jack & Diane” by John Cougar was top of the music charts in the United States
- Arnold Schwarzenegger and Conan the Barbarian co-star Sandahl Bergman are on the cover of LIFE magazine
- Jane Fonda’s Workout Book by Jane Fonda was one of the best-selling books
- Lost Luggage and Space Cavern were top video games of the day
Besides all of these important facts from 1982, the most exciting had to be that Sylvia Reed started employment at Huntington College in the Business Office. Sylvia also became the first IT employee in HU history in 1985 when she transitioned from the Business Office to become the CARS Coordinator to support the implementation of Huntington College’s first ERP system.
Sylvia has had a long and storied career at Huntington. From having the first ID Number in HU’s current ERP system to leading the Huntington University Data Committee, she has provided support across the institution in all operational areas. She has on many occasions also used her beautiful singing voice during convocations to help prepare employees’ hearts and souls for service to our students.
Please be sure to wish Sylvia well as she retires from Huntington University. There will be an open house to celebrate her on Monday, May 9 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Dowden Science Hall room 114. Cake and light refreshments will be provided.
