Director of Academic Camping Hired

Matt Gerlach, a 2007 HU grad, is coming on board to develop and lead an expanded academic camping program. As some of you know, we are applying for a significant Lilly grant to develop a robust academic and leadership camping program. Because the Lilly Foundation provided funds to help us create our large grant ask, we have been able to hire Matt Gerlach to write the grant proposal and, when granted, direct the camp program.

Matt has most recently served at Hesston College as assistant athletic director and men’s soccer coach. Before that, he spent seven years as the minister of recreation and outreach at First United Methodist Church in Panama City, Florida. Early in his career, he was program director for the City of Huntington and worked at several summer camps in Branson, Missouri, Washington, D.C., and Greencastle, Pennsylvania. Matt holds a master’s degree in recreation and sports sciences from Ohio University.

We are excited to have Matt join us. Matt initially will be working remotely from Kansas, where he resides with his wife, Harmony (Peace), and children. We are happy to have these Foresters headed back home to Huntington!
