The HU softball team celebrated their first conference win, a 6-1 decision over Spring Arbor, Thursday afternoon before the Cougars returned the favor by handing their hosts a 4-1 loss in the nightcap.

The split moves Ehler and crew to 3-10 on the year which includes a 1-3 league record.

Adelyn Harsh had an impressive outing in the circle to pick up the complete-game win in the opener. The sophomore hurler surrendered a mere two hits, one run and five walks while striking out three for her second win of the season.

Harsh’s teammates made sure they did their part at the plate by finding home five times in the third. The excitement didn’t start until HU was sitting on two outs with only Jocelyn Winebrenner on base after a single to left center. Following Courtney Mason’s base poke, Abigail Reed doubled in both teammates and then came around to score on Jenessa Hasty’s two-bagger. Cali Humphries kept things going with an RBI-single after which MacKyndsea Burke wrapped things up by knocking her in with a blooper to right.

Kiera Stacy got in on the action in the fifth with her second double of the day to drive in Hasty who singled her way on base a few batters prior. The Lancers finally got on the board in the sixth to make for the final 6-1 margin of victory.

The Cougars got their revenge in game two by scoring in four of the last five frames to slowly pull away from their hosts whose only run came in the fifth on Burke’s RBI-single up the middle.

Karlee Franklin spent the entire game on the hump to be charged with the loss after giving up eight hits, four runs and a walk white striking out four.

The Foresters hit the road Tuesday to take on Taylor at 4:00 p.m.
