Fulbright Opportunities for Faculty
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Competition for Opportunities in Canada 2023-2024
For 2023-2024, Fulbright Canada offers more than 50 Research Chairs at top Canadian institutions. The grants support research with colleagues across Canada for a four-to-nine-month period.
U.S. Scholars can: conduct research, work collaboratively, deliver lectures at university courses and in public venues, network, and promote your work while representing the Fulbright program and their home and host institutions.
These opportunities are for a start date of September 2023 or January 2024.
Applications are accepted through September 15, 2022.
If anyone is interested, we can schedule a 45-minute virtual presentation with Fulbright Canada.
There are three main award categories, two relevant to HU faculty:
- The Research Chair awards (click here for more details) are offered in the fields listed below; most of these awards are for four months.

2. Distinguished Chairs (click here for more details) for U.S. Scholars with more than ten years of experience, offered for nine months by Carleton University in Ottawa on the following topics:
Arts and Social Sciences in Canada and North America | Entrepreneurship;
Social Innovation |
Public Affairs in North America: Society, Policy, Media | Environmental Science |
Eligibility requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen (permanent residence is not sufficient)
- Hold a PhD, MFA, MPH, LLM or equivalent terminal degree
- Scholars at all levels are welcome to apply (tenure not required)
- Those who have resided abroad for five or more consecutive years in the six years preceding the application deadline are ineligible
- Recipients of a Fulbright Scholar award are eligible to apply for another award two years after the date of completion of the previous award
