WOMEN’S SOCCER

It wasn’t the outcome the HU women’s soccer team was hoping for on Senior Day as they found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision to Goshen Tuesday afternoon in their last regular season contest.

The loss brings to a close the Foresters’ season having just missed a chance at the Crossroads League Tournament to the Maple Leafs who nabbed the eighth spot with today’s win. Today’s outing also marks the last time HU’s 11 seniors will take the pitch at King Stadium.

After the first 45 minutes of play that featured six shots by both squads, none of which found back netting, the guests came out strong in the second half to establish a lead that proved permanent. The Maple Leafs netted all three of their goals within a seven-minute span starting in the 49th minute to quickly put the game out of reach.

Huntington finished with nine shots on the afternoon, six on frame, to Goshen’s 22, 15 of which were on target. Ireland Aerni finished with 12 saves.

“We played a good first half and kept to our progressive possession play,” noted Coach David Lewis. “Goshen came out strong in the second half and we failed to match their intensity.

“I appreciate the efforts of our seniors as they played their final match together.”

The Foresters wrap up the fall with an overall record of 5-9-3 which includes a 1-7-1 record in league play.
