MEN’S SOCCER

The Huntington men’s soccer team wrapped up the Blue Devil Classic with a 1-0 win over IU East Monday afternoon at Blue Devils Stadium. With this W, the Foresters improve to 4-1 on the season.

While Lawson and crew kept play mainly in their attacking half, it wasn’t until the 74th minute that they finally got the break they were counting on when Pablo Garcia got the ball deep on the right flank and bent curled far post upper 90 for the day’s only score.

The goal is Garcia’s second of the season and comes on the heels of his first goal on day one of the Blue Devil Classic. HU finished the match with 19 shots, eight on frame, to IU East’s six of which only two were on target.

“Pablo’s shot was sublime – it was the little bit of brilliance that we needed,” said Coach Russ Lawson. “I thought we had a thorough game offensively and defensively based on what we were able to create while limiting IU East to just a few shots. It was a nice bounce back performance from Saturday.

“We had quality performances up and down the line-up today and it’s always great to get a clean sheet. We’re looking forward to a week of training to prepare for Ohio Northern.”

Gabe Greenfield tallied two saves to notch the shutout.

The Foresters travel to Ohio Northern on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Polar Bears.
