WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington women’s soccer team picked up its second consecutive clean sheet on the road by blanking IU Northwest 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at the CP Sportsplex. It’s the Foresters best start since 2012 when HU won three straight to kick off the year.
Just like the season opener against IU South Bend, senior Ashtyn Patrick started off the scoring for Lewis’ crew. This time, however, her fifth career goal didn’t come until 70th minute. Up until that point, the guests monopolized the ball throughout without anything to show for it on the scoreboard despite firing off 14 shots while holding their hosts shotless.
Huntington’s patience finally paid off when Patrick found back netting after which Reagan Sanderson added an insurance goal with just under ten minutes remaining. Kalaina Stephens was credited with the assist while Patrick was awarded the second assist off the throw in.
“We maintained possession throughout the game but it took a while to break down IU Northwest’s defense,” said Coach David Lewis. “I thought our backs did a nice job preventing any serious opportunities and helped to keep the ball in our attacking half.”
HU finished the afternoon with 19 shots, 11 on frame, with IUNW’s only shot attempt coming with less than four minutes remaining. Ireland Aerni nabbed that one shot for the save on the way to notching the win in goal.
The Foresters (2-0) are back in action Saturday to take on Cornerstone at 1:00 p.m.
