Reminder: First Forester Lecture, Fall 2021
Reminder
Our first Forester Lecture is early this semester. Randy Beck, professor at the University of Georgia Law School, will present “Pharisees, Herodians and Jesus: The Kingdom of God in a Politically Polarized Culture” on Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Zurcher Auditorium.
Professor Beck is known as an engaging speaker, but our very own Professor Becky Benjamin has recommended him as a Forester Lecturer because there is much more. Professor Beck is a legendary teacher at UGA, has twice won the C. Ronald Ellington Award for Excellence in Teaching, and has also been honored by the graduating class on four occasions as the recipient of the John C. O’Byrne Memorial Faculty Award for Furthering Student-Faculty Relations.
Professor Beck is interested in sharing his extensive knowledge of the law school experience with HU students who are interested in law school. We are actively working to arrange for Professor Beck to visit HU classes with a preponderance of pre-law students. He is also a biblical scholar interested in sharing his perspectives on justice, especially as outlined in the Book of Esther.
If you teach a course in which you think a guest lecture from Professor Beck complements the content, please email kdrury@huntington.edu, and we will try our best to accommodate you. Similarly, if you have advisees who could benefit from a one-on-one, or small group, Q & A with Professor Beck, reach out and we will try to arrange it. For example, Professor Beck and his wife would greatly enjoy having lunch with a group of students.
In any case, please encourage your students to attend the Forester Lecture. There is more to the college experience than the classroom, and HU invests significantly in complementary events, such as the Forester Lecture Series. Encourage your students to take advantage of all our university has to offer! If you would like to offer credit for attendance, please email me and I will have sign-up sheets outside the auditorium for your course(s).
