WOMEN’S GOLF
The Huntington women’s golf team finished the year with a ninth place finish at the Crossroads League Championships hosted by Bethel at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores.
The first 36 holes saw HU shoot a 712 (358-354) on Monday. Sholund’s crew followed that up with an 18-hole score of 370 on Tuesday to finish with a 1082. Alexandria Maris led the way with a 264 (85-87-92) to finish 35th out of 45 golfers.
“We are working to be more consistent and overcome the bad holes,” said Sholund. “And this was an absolute must to be successful at Harbor Shores. It was a true test and while we had great stretches, we simply did not compete well enough consistently as a team.
This is a great opportunity for the girls to let this sink in over the summer. They are much better than they played and with an off-season focused on the right things, they will become more composed.”
About his lone senior, Sholund had this to say. “This was Alexandria’s last college event and a tough way to finish a career. She has so much to be proud of and has left a legacy of leadership behind.
“She will be missed.”
Danielle Tinsley finished with a 267 (89-84-94) for a share of 36th place. Abby Sheehan turned in a 272 (88-89-95) to place 39th. Lexy Turpchinoff and Katie Springer carded a 279 (96-94-89) and 295 (100-96-99) respectively.
“Lexy fought off injury to her wrist in tough conditions to post a solid score for us,” said Sholund. “I’m really proud of the grit and toughness she showed this week.
“We have a strong culture and foundation of talent to head into next year and I am excited see what this group will do.”
