The #RV HU baseball team erupted offensively to post a pair of high-scoring wins, 16-10, 17-4, over Spring Arbor (19-27, 13-19) Monday afternoon at Hank Burbridge Field.

The last time the Foresters racked up that many runs in a doubleheader dates back to 2008 when Frame’s crew beat Ohio Dominican 27-2 and 6-1.

Spring Arbor jumped out to an early lead in the opener but a three-run triple by Langston Ginder capped off a five-run second that gave HU its first lead at 5-1. Runs came easily for both teams with Daniel Lichty’s two-run bomb in the fourth extending his team’s lead to 7-4. The Cougars answered in the fifth to draw things even at 7-7 but Huntington was just getting started.

The Foresters scored in every inning after that which included a homer in each of the last three frames. Ian McCutcheon soloed in the seventh, Lichty crushed another two-run shot over the wall in center field in the eighth and then Eli Knust got in on the fun in the ninth with a two-run blast.

When all was said and done, Huntington piled up 17 hits, six for extra bases, and drew eight walks. Ginder paced the guests with four base pokes. Lichty, McCutcheon, Satchell Wilson and Jarret Gray also logged multiple hits for the Foresters with all five collecting at least one RBI.

Joey Butz earned the win on the bump. He tossed the first 5.1 innings and surrendered nine hits, seven runs and a walk while striking out one.

The nightcap was never in question after the third when Huntington exploded for 13 runs by pounding out nine hits, drawing two walks and taking advantage of an SAU error and three straight hit batters. Huntington sifted through four Cougar pitchers with Gray headlining the hitting clinic.

After Ginder sent one deep to account for the guests’ first two runs, Gray one-upped his teammate by knocking two out of the park, both with a runner on, in an inning where 18 Foresters stepped up to the plate.

Lichty notched his third homer of the day in the fourth bringing his season total to six. Ginder posted three hits to finish with seven on the day. Wilson also claimed three base pokes while Gray and Alex McCutcheon each added a pair of hits. Ten different Foresters tallied at least one hit with eight of them driving in at least one run.

Mason Shinabery gave up six hits, four runs and a walk while notching seven whiffs in 5.1 innings of work to grab the win while Riley McMahon offered 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

With these wins, the Foresters (27-13) move to 20-12 in CL action for the fourth spot in the league standings, just two games behind Taylor and Saint Francis who are tied for second.

HU is taking a break from Crossroads League action tomorrow for a single nine against Lourdes.
