The Forester track and field program had a solid outing at the annual Indiana Little State Championships over the weekend. Aspen Dirr hit a pair of standards to headline the two-day event.
The Prairie Heights product hit the “A” standard in the 5000 meters with her second-place time of 17:29.02. She also earned a trip to NAIA Nationals in the 1500 meters by clocking in with a winning-time of 4:39.28 which proves a “B” standard.
Sydni Ausberry took second in the 100 meters in 12.41, a new PR which moves her into 4th in the HU record books. Hannah Wappes also earned points for the Foresters by crossing the line 5th in the 5000 meters in 18:01.23.
The 4×400 meter relay team made up of Mia Ostopovich, Meg McDonald, Ashley Berndl and Caitlyn Fisher finished 7th in 4:20.16 to round out Huntington’s points. As a team, the HU women finished ninth out of 15 teams with 32 points.
On the men’s side, Dylan Felger ran to a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles by posting a time of 52.36, a new PR. Cameron Worsham earned nine points for his team highlighted by finishing 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.70. Not only did he hit the “A” standard, but his time also broke the school record.
Additionally, the Lima (Ohio) native finished 8th in the 200 meters by clocking in at 22.54. Riley Meek worked his way into the record books with his 6th-place time of 11.04 in the 100 meters which proves the eighth fastest time in HU history.
Noah Bise’s leap of 7.01 meters earned him 2nd place honors in long jump while his mark of 12.85 meters in triple jump was good for 7th place. Javelin saw two Foresters claim points with Blake Cooke (41.12 meters) and Seth Parsell (40.21 meters) finishing 7th and 8th respectively.
The 4×400 meter relay team which included Josiah Sovine, Robert Nabulere, Felger and Meek finished 4th in 3:21.22, just .22 seconds off the school record. As a team, the Forester men totaled 40 points to finish ninth out of 14 teams.
Huntington hosts its own invitational on Saturday.
