MEN’S BOWLING

The Huntington men’s bowling team had an exceptional weekend at the Western Shootout where they claimed second behind the outstanding play of Austin Schultz. The senior bowler finished third individually with a score of 1175 (235/game average) which included a high game of 279 to claim his ninth career all-tournament team honor.

The format included just five team games. HU scored a total of 5,274 pins for a 1054.8 per game average.  The 13-team field featured #1 ranked Calumet College of St. Joe and perennial powerhouse programs like Norte Dame College and Lincoln Memorial.

It was the Foresters best outing of the year. Shockey’s crew lead the tournament after three games before Notre Dame put together some very impressive scores the last two games to eventually win by over 200 pins.

“We knew the guys were capable of putting together this kind of a tournament performance,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “We’ve seen it in practice all year, but just couldn’t quite put it all together on a tournament day.

“It was a total team performance. This was the first time in a long time we finished a tournament where the team averaged over 200. We will be going to USBC sectionals in a few weeks, and this is a big confidence booster for us.”

USBC sectionals is slated for April 16-18.
