BOWLING
For the first time in program history, the Foresters swept the WHAC’s weekly Bowler of the Week honors as announced by the league office earlier today.
Freshman Paige New (Space Coast HS, Cocoa, Fla.) led the HU women to a first place finish at WHAC Jamboree #1 on Friday. The rookie sensation dominated the field of 95 bowlers by posting a three-game score of 696 for a 232 per game average to earn WHAC Women’s Bowler of the Week accolades. Her nearest competitor was 78 pins back.
As a team, the Foresters registered a total pin count of 4962, 308 pins ahead of second-place Indiana Tech, to win the league’s first tourney of the year.
Senior Austin Schultz (Portage HS, Valparaiso, Ind.) also brought home the individual title on the men’s side to be voted the WHAC Men’s Bowler of the Week. Through three games, Schultz registered a total score of 705 for a 235 per game average.
The Huntington men took third place as a team with 5190 total pins.
Next up for the Foresters is WHAC Jamboree #2 on Saturday in Jackson, Mich.
