HSA & Over-the-Counter

The recently passed Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) now allows patients to use funds from Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to cover over-the-counter (OTC) drugs without a prescription, thus repealing the prohibition from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Additionally, menstrual care products were added to the list of qualified medical expenses. These changes are effective for amounts paid and expenses incurred in 2020 and apply indefinitely. For more information read the attached memo.

The memo is also posted on the portal under Personnel > Benefits > Wellness > 2021 Benefit Enrollment.
