VOLLEYBALL
The HU volleyball team made a second trip to Goshen (0-13, 0-13) in less than a week and, just like previously, left Gunden Gymnasium with another win to their name. This time it was a 3-0 decision, 25-19, 25-14, 25-10. Not only did Wednesday’s win wrap up the regular season sweep, it also extended Huntington’s win streak over the Maple Leafs to five.
Staring at an early five-point deficit in the first set, it was a test of poise for the Foresters who passed with flying colors. Down 9-4, HU pieced together a 9-1 run, a rarity in volleyball, to slip on top 13-10. While Goshen tied things up shortly after, the visitors pressed on to take the set in 43 rallies.
The next two sets belonged to Huntington with the third set most impressive. The Foresters connected on 15 of their 26 swings with just two errors to finish with an astounding .500 hitting percentage as a team.
Offense was by committee with Abby Robinson leading the way with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Brea Metz added seven kills while Tya Bynum and Brandy Michie posted six apiece. As a team, Huntington tallied just 11 hitting errors on the evening and recorded a season-best .272 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Bynum and Robinson were also active at the net with 2.5 blocks each. As a team, HU finished with seven blocks to Goshen’s five.
Jennings Tacosik and Morgan Robrock split time at the setter spot with Tacosik handing out 18 assists to go along with four aces and Robrock doling out eight dimes. Ariene Butler finished with ten digs, Sam Gray chipped in eight and Nicole Flickinger and Robinson each posted five.
“Tonight was a team-effort win where everyone contributed to the victory,” said Coach Herber. “I am proud of the way these girls played tonight.
“They kept their foot on the gas all three sets, and they played aggressive at the net both offensively and defensively.”
The Foresters (2-14, 2-13) cap off the regular season by hosting Spring Arbor on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
