VOLLEYBALL

The HU volleyball team topped Goshen College in four sets, 25-13, 15-25, 25-17, 25-16, Friday night at Gunden Gymnasium. It was a satisfying first win for Herber and crew as they took it to their hosts, minus the second set hiccup, in convincing fashion.

The loss leaves the Maple Leafs (0-12, 0-12) still on the prowl for their first W of the season.

The Foresters’ offensive output was some of their best of the season as they finished with a .207 hitting percentage. It’s the third match this fall they’ve hit over .200 as a team. Abby Robinson led a balanced attack with a match-high 12 kills on 22 swings for a .409 hitting percentage.

Brea Metz also had a stellar night offensively to finish with ten kills. On just 12 swings, Lindsay Ingenito racked up eight kills without committing an error for an astounding .667 hitting percentage. Brandy Michie got in on the action as well to add six kills.

Jennings Tacosik had an all-around solid night by posting 34 assists, six aces, six digs and four kills on just six takes.

As a unit, the Foresters finished with a season-high ten aces. In addition to Tacosik’s six, Ariene Butler chipped in two. The senior libero also took charge of the backline to track down a match-high 23 digs.

“Tonight was a team effort, and I’m grateful these girls were rewarded with a win tonight after all the hard work they’ve put in this season,” said Coach Herber. “They earned it.”

In the three sets Huntington won, the visitors trailed on a combined total of just four possessions and won each set, on average, by ten points. But arguably the most impressive factor in the victory was the Foresters’ perseverance to bounce back from a lopsided second set to take the match back in commanding form.

“After losing set two, we responded well by picking up our vocal energy, hitting aggressive shots and staying disciplined on defense,” said Herber.

Huntington hits the road again on Monday to face Mount Vernon at 7:00 p.m.
