VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington volleyball team came up empty Friday night against Taylor in a 3-0 decision, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, at Platt Arena. With this win, the Trojans improve to 7-7 overall, 6-6 in league play and grab its second win against the Foresters.

The last time these two squads faced off was early this fall when the match stretched to five sets at Odle Arena.

The first set was a battle featuring 15 ties and seven lead changes and while the Foresters never let their visitors stray too far ahead, TU opened up the next two sets with a run forcing Herber’s squad to chase them the rest of the evening.

Tya Bynum paced the Foresters offensively with ten kills on 17 swings without any errors for an impressive .588 hitting percentage. The 5-9 middle also finished with 2.5 stuffs, two of which were of the solo variety. Brandy Michie added six kills and Lindsay Ingenito chipped in five.

Jennings Tacosik dished out 30 assists and posted two aces. As a team, the Foresters committed just two service errors to Taylor’s seven.  Defensively, Ariene Butler and Nicole Flickinger registered 13 and nine digs respectively. TU won the battle at the net defensively to finish with ten blocks to HU’s four.

“Tonight we didn’t execute consistently being in our spot on defense, seeing the block and swinging around it and running through the ball instead of going to our knees,” said Coach Herber. “Taylor did a great job of running a quick tempo offense that made it challenging for us to be in system.”

The Foresters (0-11, 0-10) are back at it tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. to host Saint Francis.
