The Huntington women’s soccer team (1-7-1, 1-6-1) picked up its first win of the season Wednesday in convincing fashion by blanking Bethel, 4-0, under the lights at Morey Field.

Freshman Riley Voss kept the hosts out of the net for the first collegiate shutout of her young career. The rookie keeper finished with four saves.

The Foresters, who entered the contest with three goals, took out their pent-up offensive energy on the Pilots (1-5-0, 1-5-0) to more than double their season’s total. After a scoreless first half, HU unleashed to find back netting four times in less than 35 minutes. Jordan Adam started the scoring frenzy with a left-footed strike far post after juking a defender just minutes into the second frame.

Twenty minutes later, Avery Giguere upped HU’s lead to 2-0 when she received a pass midfield and dribbled through at least five defenders to blast a shot, also left-footed, far post. Not only was it Giguere’s first goal of the season, but the first of three HU goals within a ten-minute span.

It was Ashtyn Patrick’s turn next. The 75th minute saw the junior midfielder launch a shot well outside the box that hit far post and bounced in for her first score of the year, the third of her career.

Courtney McKown put the finishing touches on HU’s scoring five minutes after Patrick’s bomb. After tracking down a throw in, she was off to the races, beating several defenders and then slotting the keeper to make for the 4-0 final.

Huntington outshot their hosts 12-5 and also enjoyed a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

“From start to finish, this was a well-played match,” said Coach Lewis. “We connected our passes and finally took some composed shots for goals. Their hard work is paying off.”

Next up for Lewis and crew is a trip to Taylor on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. face-off with the Trojans.
