The #RV Huntington men’s soccer team was never able to get anything going Saturday night at Cougar Soccer Complex to suffer a 3-0 loss to Spring Arbor.

Offense didn’t come easy for the visitors as Lawson’s crew came up blank on the scoreboard for not only their first loss of the season but the first time they’ve been shutout this fall as well. HU managed just five shots, one on frame.

SAU (3-2-1, 3-2-1), on the other hand, found their groove behind Caleb Depree who came off the bench and proved a one-man wrecking crew. The senior midfielder scored his team’s first two goals with his first, also the first of his career, coming seconds before halftime on a misplayed ball in the box.

Depree struck again 13 minutes into the second period when he got his head on a ball off a corner kick. It made for a 2-0 lead that wouldn’t be challenged with Cole Russell capitalizing on a penalty kick in the waning minutes to further put the game out of reach.

It was a breakout scoring night for a Spring Arbor squad that entered the evening with five goals through its first six games all scored by a pair of Cougars in Cole Russell (3) and Zoltan Suranyi (2). HU came into the contest with ten goals under their belt behind Pablo Garcia’s three with five other Foresters logging at least one goal apiece.

“Tonight we just got beat by a better team,” said Coach Lawson. “I liked our play in the first half. And  I thought we had a little bit of a response in the second half  but when you’re chasing the game and you’re going up against a quality side, it makes for a long night.”

With this loss, Huntington drops to 4-1-2 overall and in league play. The Foresters return to the friendly confines of King Stadium on Saturday to host Taylor at 2:00 p.m.
