WOMEN’S SOCCER
The #24 Spring Arbor Cougars (4-1-1, 4-1-1) blanked the HU women’s soccer team 4-0 Saturday afternoon at King Stadium.
Three of SAU’s goals came in the second half, the first two within opening nine minutes of the frame at the foot of Lexi Ponstein. The two quick scores quickly stretched the visitors’ lead beyond reproach while the final goal served as the exclamation mark on the Cougars’ fourth consecutive shutout.
The first half saw HU (0-7-1, 0-6-1) hold their own with the only blip coming in the 15th minute when Kassidy Kreilach made a gallant effort to save the ball from crossing the goal line but was instead ruled a goal by the sideline official. The Foresters gave up just six shots in the first half.
Riley Voss went the distance in frame to finish with seven saves in the losing effort.
“With so many players out with injuries, we started five freshmen today,” said Coach Lewis. “This was some great game exposure against a nationally ranked team.
“Overall, I liked our effort today.”
Next up for Lewis and crew is a road trip to Bethel for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Pilots.
