Flu Vaccine – Love One Another
Flu season will soon be upon us, and the University Senior Leadership Team is requesting that all faculty and staff get a flu vaccine this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself and the people around you from flu and to help reduce the strain on healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Go to https://www.cdc.gov/flu/prevent/vaccinations.htm for more information.)
The Forester Family Pledge affirms our commitment to protect the health and safety of our campus community, their families, and those in Huntington County. We can carry out this pledge during flu season by:
- Loving others through protecting myself – practice personal hygiene including hand washing and getting my flu vaccine
- Loving others through being intentional – staying home if I feel sick and encouraging others to get a flu vaccine
- Protecting my community through my actions and attitudes – following HU protocols and getting my flu vaccine
HU’s Department of Nursing is offering flu vaccines on Thursday, October 8, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Nursing Lab 074 – Lower Level Dowden Science Hall. Contact Holly Tester (htester@huntington.edu) if you will be getting your vaccine during this time. Most insurances (including HU’s plan) are accepted. Uninsured cost is $8.
For those who are unable to take advantage of the HU flu clinic, many doctor’s offices and pharmacies offer flu vaccines. As another option, the Huntington County Health Department is offering a drive-thru flu vaccination clinic on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. It will be located in the parking lot behind the Huntington County Health Department (1330 S. Jefferson St. Huntington). Just follow the signs for flu vaccinations. Insurance is accepted. For uninsured individuals, $8 will be due at time of service.
Christ has commanded us to love one another sacrificially. We pray that you will exemplify Christ’s love for others by taking the steps necessary to be vaccinated against the flu. Thank you.
