WOMEN’S SOCCER

Saturday night’s brawl at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium between the Huntington women’s soccer team and Saint Francis Cougars (1-2-1) ended in a 0-0 double OT stalemate. The draw leaves both teams with a 0-2-1 record in league play.

Defense was on display under the lights on the USF campus as neither squad could convert their opportunities into changes on the scoreboard. HU topped their visitors in shots 15-13 with Jordan Adam finishing with a match-high six shots, half of which were on frame. Ashtyn Patrick added two shots for the Foresters.

The extra periods saw both teams generate four shots apiece. Maddy Moan spent the entire night in frame to tally the shutout as did her counterpart Melanie Xouris. Moan collected five saves while Xouris tracked down seven.

It’s Huntington’s first result of the season as they move to 0-2-1.

Coach Lewis liked what he saw. “The overall team effort was good tonight. There are technical components that we need to clean up but it’s improving.”

The Foresters return to King Stadium on Wednesday to host Mount Vernon at 4:00 p.m.
