Mission Moment
During a recent virtual chapel, Bishops Todd Fetters spoke about Paul and the commitment and positivity he exhibited amid remarkably challenging circumstances. While listening to Bishop Fetters, I was struck by a very specific comment he made. He said, “We may be out of each other’s physical presence today, but we do not have to be out of mind.” Bishop Fetters then proceeded to explain how Paul intentionally pursued opportunities to encourage others and stay connected, urging us to find these opportunities as well. In light of COVID-19, we have been required to stay connected in unique and unprecedented ways. We have turned to Zoom, virtual learning opportunities, and countless other resources at our disposal.
It is encouraging to know that we serve a God whose work is not bound by obstacles such as distance or time. Similarly, our mission of Christ. Scholarship. Service. is not bound by the restrictions of COVID-19. Our mission is built upon a firm foundation that surely cannot fail, even considering challenging circumstances. Matthew 7:24-27 shares the wisdom of building a house upon a solid foundation rather than a weak one. Just like a house built upon a solid foundation and its ability to withstand floods and winds, our University will withstand challenges that will come against it because our mission is built upon the solid foundation of Christ. Thanks to HU alumnus Todd Fetters for reminding us of our continued opportunity to fulfill our University’s mission, even when distance and circumstance make it more challenging!
