Mission Moment
Sometimes it becomes the simple things or the little things that can catch your eye or that matter most. This was true for me last Monday morning as I looked outside of my Becker Hall office window. If you recall, this day featured a wind advisory and a stiff, cold northern wind that lasted all day. It was not necessarily the wind that caught my attention that morning, though. It was a stream of soap suds from the fountain that were being rapidly blown across the lawn that caught my eye. While this fountain has been soaped countless times over the years, this one seemed different. It was done in the midst of a national emergency and pandemic. It reminded me that even during times of challenge and uncertainty, there can be joy and excitement. For the students who chose to soap the fountain late the night before or early that morning, maybe it was one last shot at a tradition. Maybe it was due to having a little extra time in their schedule due to less people being on campus. Regardless of the reason, it was a subtle reminder that HU is full of traditions, experiences, and memories that generations of students carry with them forever. These same traditions, experiences, and memories are some of the reasons that make fulfilling the mission of honoring Christ through Scholarship and Service even more satisfying.
