Mission Moment
The Forester indoor track & field teams had an incredible showing at the national meet a week ago, highlighted by the University’s first ever NAIA national championship. The women’s team dominated the competition and literally ran away with the top prize. As exciting as this accomplishment was, this mission moment focuses on a part of the story a little outside spotlight. I was so impressed with how the campus community responded to this accomplishment. Generally speaking, it is easy to support a winner…to jump on the proverbial bandwagon. However, the support and response were clearly genuine and focused completely on showing the Forester athletes that they are valued, appreciated, and celebrated. One student, who I have known for ten years from his days with the local school district, reached out and asked what could be done to welcome the team back. I had just recently spoken to his Business Organization class that he has with Troy Irick, and Paul’s words struck me. He said that this is exactly what we talked about in class…the mission of the University. What an incredible feeling to know that in times of incredible excitement and times of extreme challenges that our mission of Christ, Scholarship, Service shines through!
