Mission Moment

Forester Athletics recognized 112 student-athletes recently for earning Academic Honor Roll distinctions (3.5 grade point average or higher). As was highlighted at the ceremony, these student-athletes represent Huntington University in many remarkable ways…on the floor/field, in the classroom, and on campus. They are leaders in a variety of capacities and balance the additional hours and commitment it takes to compete in intercollegiate athletics. Rae Gonterman, who was the keynote speaker for the ceremony (and current Board of Trustees member for HU), reminded those in attendance that these are special moments and incredible opportunities. She shared Scripture from Isaiah 40:30-31: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” As part of this, Rae shared that when we place our hope in God, He provides. As I looked around the auditorium and saw not only those student-athletes in attendance but also the many family members, coaches, and faculty members who have supported them in their journey, it was easy to see God’s provision and our mission of Christ, Scholarship, Service on full display.
