BOWLING
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its postseason awards and among those honored were HU freshman Amber Elliott and junior Austin Schultz.
Elliott established herself as the top rookie in the league and for her efforts has been deemed the WHAC Newcomer of the Year on the women’s side, a first for the program. A native of Northwood, Ohio (Northwood HS), the right-handed sensation averaged a 192.19 in the four WHAC Jamborees to claim this elite honor. Additionally, her play in league action garnered her First Team All-Conference praises.
“Amber has worked really hard and developed beyond a one-dimensional player,” said Coach Shockey. “She had been our most consistent bowler all year long and is well deserving of these honors.”
Elliott’s resume also includes claiming the individual title at WHAC Jamboree #3 to be named to the All-Tournament Team as well as the Bowler of the Week for the week of December 9. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team in the final conference jamboree.
Schultz was one of five men’s bowlers to be tabbed First Team All-Conference. The Valparaiso native (Portage HS) averaged a 206.69 in league play, the third highest average among his WHAC peers, to earn a spot on the top team. He is the first Forester in program history to earn all-conference accolades.
Schultz boasts a WHAC Bowler of the Week badge for the week of December 2 for his sixth place finish out of 195 bowlers at the USBC National Collegiate Team Match Games. He also holds two All-Tournament Team awards for topping the men’s field at the WHAC’s season opening jamboree and then finishing third at Jamboree #3.
“Austin is a tremendously talented bowler who is always looking for ways to improve,” said Shockey. “It was exciting to see him start trusting his mental game along with his physical game.”
The WHAC also announced its Champions of Character award winners which included HU’s Kyndal Collins and Dylan Herring. The Foresters have experienced their fair share of success in the classroom as well as evidenced by Collins, Brianna Fish, Heath Atkins and Jordan Herring being named to the WHAC All-Academic Team.
