BOWLING
The Foresters bowled at Fort Wayne’s Thunderbowl #1 on Saturday for the WHAC Championships. The tourney included 16 Baker games with the top four teams advancing to the bracket-style match play. Unfortunately, both teams finished outside the top four, failing to make the match play portion of the day.
The HU women had a tough time dealing with the difficult lane conditions and finished the tournament with an 11th place finish out of 13 teams. Overall, the scoring pace was low for all the teams and the Foresters really struggled playing the angle needed to create positive pin action. Indiana Tech led qualifying and eventually lost to Madonna University in the championship match.
The Huntington men fared much better for most of the day. The difficult lane conditions played into the teams’ strengths and led to the Foresters setting a new school record of 288 for a single Baker game. Going into the last four games, HU was in second place and prepped to make match play.
Unfortunately, the men found all sorts of struggles in the last set and fell to 6th place by the end of qualifying. Indiana Tech headed into match play as the top seed but lost in the first round while Lawrence Tech came away as the victors of the tournament.
The day was highlighted by announcement of Amber Elliott and Austin Schultz earning WHAC First Team All-Conference accolades.
