MEN’S TENNIS

The Huntington men’s tennis team headed to Grand Rapids to kick off the spring portion of their schedule against a pair of WHAC opponents. Playing down a few players, the Foresters opened the day with a 6-1 loss to Cornerstone before being edged out 4-3 by Aquinas (1-4).

HU, having brought a 5-7 record from the fall, drop to 5-9 on the year.

Against the Golden Eagles (4-2) in the morning, HU’s lone win came at No. 1 singles where Rodrigo Manzo handed Mateo Jimenez a 6-3, 7-5 loss. The afternoon versus Aquinas saw Manzo pick up a second win, a 6-2, 6-3 decision, against Austin Luker. Diego Tapia breezed by Joel Hancox, 6-4, 6-2, at #2 singles whiles Sebastian Salas was Huntington’s other win of the day at No. 4 singles.

Next up for Eckert and crew is a match at IU East slated for March 7.
