BOWLING
The HU bowling team had a good showing at the last WHAC Jamboree of the season over the weekend. The Forester men finished sixth while the women claimed fourth and the JV women picked up a huge win in reserve action.
On the women’s side, the Foresters were well represented on the All-Tournament Team with Amber Elliott and Brianna Fish earning a spot by finishing third and fifth respectively. Elliott scored a 758 for a four-game average of 189.5 while Fish posted a 744 for a 186.0 four-game average. As a team, despite being under the weather, HU collected 6,142 pins over four team games and 16 Baker games.
“The ladies were in third place most of the day and at one point were making a run at second, but illness caught up to us and we just could not keep up the pace,” said Coach Shockey. “With the low scoring pace, I would have loved to see what this team could have done if we were healthy.
“The ladies continue to impress me bowling as a team and having a competitive mindset.”
The JV squad ran away from their competition by winning their division by 142 pins. They totaled 3,161 pins in the team games and then added another 2,558 pins in Baker action. It was the team’s first win of the season. Individually, Savannah Albers led the way with a 12th place finish out of 102 players by finishing with a score of 723 for four games (180.75/ average).
“The ladies have worked hard all season and the improvement has been obvious to all the coaches,” noted Shockey. “It was a complete team win with everyone leading the team at different times of the day.”
The Forester men got off to a rough start with a first game team score of 785 but fought back to claim a season-high sixth place finish. In team play, Huntington shot 3,665 for eighth place heading into Baker games where they found their groove. They tallied 3,010 pins for a 188.0 average to move up two spots by the day’s end.
“The men found consistency during the Baker games that has been missing all season,” said Shockey. “With one regular season tournament left, the guys need to carry the momentum into the Hoosier Classic to finish the season strong and position themselves for a post-season run.”
Huntington is back in action February 15-16 for the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic.
