Mission Moment

The historic UB block in downtown Huntington will soon see a Forester footprint when the large-scale project is completed this spring. In 2015, deteriorating conditions and safety concerns landed this space on Indiana Landmarks’ 10 Most Endangered list. Funds from the City of Huntington sparked the interest in redevelopment, which also utilized Indiana Regional Cities funding and the federal Historic Tax Credit, ensuring the preservation of original components. When the building reopens, it will feature space occupied by Pathfinder Services, the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, and Huntington University. HU has plans to utilize the space for our entrepreneurship program and to create a professional business environment for local partners interested in co-occupying the space.

Walking through the space, one cannot help but take a mental stroll through time. Taking in the original hardwood floors and seeing the stained glass and preserved murals opens the imagination to think about the original activities, the people who worked and/or visited, and the multitude of experiences. Huntington University having an opportunity to be part of this historic effort certainly fits God’s plan for us that involves restoration and renewal. Whether it is fixing up a classic car or reclaiming a historic building, it is exciting to see change and transformation. God loves to see positive changes and transformations in each of us! As we experience the excitement of a reclaimed building space, we encounter just a very small glimpse of the joy God has in seeing His people become renewed and restored.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
